One Mission, Two Pastors: Supporting Haitian Immigrants in Ohio, USA

One was raised in a violent and impoverished rural area of Haiti. In Michigan, the other was a “blue-collar farm kid.” Pastors Reginald Silencieux and Carl Ruby of Springfield, Ohio, have come together for a shared cause motivated by their faith: helping the city’s Haitian immigrants who are afraid of being deported as a result of President Trump’s immigration crackdown. The pastor of the First Haitian Evangelical Church, Silencieux, stated, “Life in Haiti was difficult, but it sharpened my character.” “It taught me perseverance, responsibility, and the importance of community.”

The mission is fundamental to Ruby’s beliefs at Central Christian Church. “Caring for immigrants and for refugees—it’s not just an add-on to my faith, it’s the center of my faith,” he stated. Remaining steadfast in the face of lies

In 2024, both preachers resisted Trump’s bogus accusations that Springfield’s Haitians were consuming their neighbors’ dogs. Ruby urged his congregation to put the unpleasant news behind them, saying, “We represent God. Focus.”
