Overnight, Israel Continues to Bombard Lebanon With Strikes
An Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut overnight left buildings in ruins, as smoke rose from the debris. On March 5, Israel issued a historic evacuation warning for all of the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Israel’s massive evacuation order earlier this week has caused alarm in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut. While Israeli airstrikes have continued to bombard Lebanon, many civilians have tried to leave the area.
Without identifying the attack’s origin, state media said that a number of Ghanaian personnel of a United Nations peacekeeping force were injured when their base in southern Lebanon was struck. In its conflict with the Hezbollah organization, which is supported by Iran, Israel has been focusing on southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah, a militant organization in Lebanon, said its men were part in the fighting that broke out on the Lebanon-Syria border as Israel attempted a landing operation, according to official Lebanese media on Saturday.
As Iran launched attacks throughout the Gulf, Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry reported on Saturday that it had intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at an air facility that housed US military personnel. After at least two drone attacks were reported earlier this week that targeted the Ras Tanura refinery in the east, the state news agency of the oil-rich country said that it had stopped a drone attack on an oilfield close to the Emirati border.
