Ten People have Died in the Most Recent pub Shooting in South Africa
Ten people were killed in the most recent mass shooting at a pub in South Africa on Tuesday, and police reported that they had identified two possible perpetrators. The early-morning attack on Sunday in the suburb of Bekkersdal, 46 kilometers west of Johannesburg, claimed the lives of three women and seven men. Nine patients are still in the hospital.
Approximately twelve unidentified gunmen in two vehicles started fire on pub goers at around one in the morning. According to authorities, they kept shooting at random as they rushed away. Based on community reports to the police, two people have been identified as possible suspects in the shooting, according to Maj. Gen. Fred Kekana, acting provincial commissioner of Gauteng.
The owner of the bar will face charges of fraud and running an illicit liquor store, according to a Gauteng police spokesperson. All of the alcohol in the tavern has been seized by the authorities. It was South Africa’s second mass shooting at a township tavern in three weeks.
