AFCON 2025 Begins, with Morocco Prepared to Host the Continent
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) officially begins today in Morocco after months of anticipation. Nine stadiums, six host cities, twenty-four teams, and a football-mad country are all set to welcome the continent for Africa’s largest competition.
Morocco will be one of the major co-hosts of the World Cup in 2030, and in order to get ready, the country has started one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in African sports history. The four-week competition has been framed as a high-profile dress rehearsal.
A subdued initial performance gives way to growing anticipation amid Rabat’s enormous fan base. Moroccan supporters are already speaking out despite the unusually cold and rainy weather for an Africa Cup of Nations.
