Morocco’s Exhibition Delves Into a Colourful Universe

The Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakech is hosting an exhibition that explores the vibrant world of birds and the artistic effect they have had on Mexican art from antiquity to the present. 95 pieces of art inspired by birds, ranging from peacocks and ducks to pelicans and canaries, are on display at the “Birds of Mexico” show.
Symbols of birds were frequently included into ceremonies and artwork, strengthening Mexico’s cultural identity. The exhibition, which includes paintings, sculptures, and apparel, began on Friday and will remain up until July 27. A few of the pieces on exhibit discuss the significance of birds in Aztec and Maya culture, where the quetzal bird was connected to the gods and represented strength and liberty.
According to exhibition organiser Juan Gerardo Ugalde Salinas, “there is a great diversity of pieces, including pre-Hispanic works that were created prior to Spanish colonisation, as well as colonial, modern, and contemporary pieces.”
The exhibition’s objects were gathered from Mexican museums and private collections. The purpose of this exhibition is to introduce tourists to Mexican art and its historical significance as part of a cultural exchange between Morocco and Mexico.
