23 People Have Died as a Result of the South African Building Collapse
One week after the accident in the Western Cape province’s George city, search and rescue teams were still at the scene. Municipal People authorities announced on Monday that the death toll had surpassed 23.
An investigation is still underway to determine what caused the collapse. According to local media, the nation’s minister of public works was scheduled to visit the accident scene on Monday.
A man was extricated from beneath the debris on Saturday, 116 hours following the collision. The structure, whose construction was authorised in July of last year, was intended to be a block of 42 apartments. It fell on Monday just after 2:00 p.m. local time.
