1,700 British Travelers File a Lawsuit Against Tui due to illness in Cape Verde
With its year-round sunshine, white sand beaches, and verdant mountains that provide much-needed respite from the weather at home, the island nation of Cape Verde is a dream destination for many British vacationers.
However, nearly 1,700 British travelers are now suing the travel company Tui, claiming they became gravely ill while on holiday in the West African archipelago. It is thought that eight individuals who were on Tui-organized package vacations perished from severe stomach illnesses.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys claim that their clients have experienced parasite infections, salmonella, E. coli, and shigella. They claim to have proof of unhygienic conditions and dangerous food preparation provided by Tui’s hotel partners.
Tui, which has transported over a million passengers to Cape Verde in recent years, has denied any involvement and maintained that it offers its sick guests all the assistance they require. According to RIU Hotels & Resorts, their Cape Verdean establishments adhere to the most stringent international health and hygiene regulations.
