Zuma of South Africa Could be Kicked Out of the ANC

According to a leaked document, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa has resolved to oust former president Jacob Zuma for heading a competing party in the May elections.

The choice comes after Zuma was subject to disciplinary action earlier this month.

According to the July 29 document, “The charged member is expelled from the ANC.” Additionally, it states that Zuma has 21 days to file an appeal with the National Disciplinary Committee.

Despite his prior scandals, Zuma is still well-liked. In January, the ANC suspended him for his endorsement of the newly established uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party. MK came in third place with 14.5% of the votes cast in the elections held on May 29. With 58 MPs in the 400-seat National Assembly, MK is currently led by Zuma.

With 40% of the vote in the May elections, the African National Congress (ANC) had its worst showing since taking office thirty years prior to the end of apartheid.
