Zelenskyy Ends his Brief Trip to South Africa Following the Russian Assault on Kyiv

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia was not under any pressure to proceed with a settlement that would bring about enduring peace in Ukraine. I do not see pressure on Russia now and new sanctions packages against the aggression of the Russian Federation,” Zelenskyy stated as he and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa were touring in Pretoria.
In his remarks, Zelenskyy stated he would shorten his trip to South Africa in order to return home due to an incident that left at least nine people dead and over 70 injured—the bloodiest attack on the city since last July.
The strikes happened at a time when peace initiatives are at their peak. According to Zelenskyy, initial data suggested that about 250 ballistic missiles and drones were used in the assault.
“We think we can pull our parties closer together if we put more pressure on the Russian Federation. We will be able to get closer to a full, unconditional ceasefire in diplomatic terms,” he continued.
Zelenskyy said that a readiness to sit down “with the terrorists that did it all on our land, exclusively on our land, that is a great compromise” when asked what concessions Ukraine was prepared to make during peace talks with Russia.
