54 Troops Were Murdered in an Islamic Extremist Strike, According to Benin

At least 54 soldiers were killed in an Islamic terrorist attack on military installations in northern Benin last week, according to the administration of the West African nation. Only eight troops were killed on April 17, according to earlier reports from authorities.

The SITE Intelligence organisation reported the attack killed 70 troops and was carried out by JNIM, an al-Qaida-affiliated terrorist organisation. The attacks happened in the northeastern Alibori district of Benin, which shares borders with Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

In their fight against Islamic extremist organisations, Sahel nations like Burkina Faso and Niger have been causing bloodshed in Benin’s north for years.

Extremist violence has long been prevalent in the tri-border region, notably in the vicinity of the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex. The huge national park, which stretches over all three nations, has turned into a base from which extremists conduct cross-border operations.

On Wednesday, Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, the government spokesperson, lamented the lack of collaboration with Benin’s neighbours in the battle against extremist organisations. Since the locations of the April 17 attacks are on the border, you may comprehend that if, on the opposite side of the border.
