Black American Unemployment Has Increased to its Greatest Level Since the Epidemic

In the past, a faltering economy as a whole has been preceded by rising Black unemployment rates. When the economy starts to falter, Black Americans are laid off first because they are more likely than white Americans to be employed in low-paying, temporary positions.

According to Jessica Fulton, a senior scholar at the Joint Centre for Political and Economic Studies, “Black workers, and particularly Black women, show up as a canary in the coal mine, giving a picture of what may happen to everyone else later.

According to recent U.S. Federal Reserve surveys, President Donald Trump’s tariff system has raised corporate expenses, which has caused some companies to postpone employment plans. Experts caution that the growing rate of unemployment among Black Americans may portend an impending recession.

Trump has put in a lot of effort since taking office to rid the federal government of programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
