At Least two People are Killed When Police Shoot at Gatherings Honoring Raila Odinga
The shooting at the 60,000-seat soccer stadium in Nairobi, the country’s capital, where the viewing was scheduled to take place before the funeral over the weekend, was confirmed by Adamson Bungei, Kenya’s head of police operations.
When a mob surged and attempted to break through a stadium gate, tensions increased. Police shot mourners with tear gas and live ammunition. Two deaths were confirmed by Bungei, however multiple unverified claims from local media claimed that the death toll had risen to four.

On Saturday, a second public viewing will take place near Odinga’s remote home in the western county of Kisumu. On Sunday, Odinga’s rural home of Bondo in western Kenya will host a state funeral.
