Trump Meets with the King of Jordan and Restates his Plan to “Clear” Gaza

During a meeting with the King of Jordan, U.S. President Donald Trump once again floated the contentious idea that Gaza could be cleared of all inhabitants, placed under American authority, and turned into a tourism destination. Only if Jordan takes in additional refugees from the enclave—something it has refused to do—will the plan probably succeed.

We’re going to have it and we’re going to keep it,” Trump told reporters as he laid out his contentious plan for Gaza. And we’ll make sure that everything runs smoothly, that there won’t be any problems, that there will be peace, and that no one will question it.

We will eventually experience massive economic development—possibly the biggest on that location. Additionally, there will be a lot of beneficial construction there, such as office buildings, hotels, and other structures. “And we’ll transform that site into what it ought to be,” he continued.

Jordan’s King didn’t elaborate on the proposal. “I think we have to keep in mind that there is a plan from Egypt and the Arab countries,” he said, insisting that the two countries should devise a plan that benefits the United States, Jordan, and those in Gaza. Mohammed bin Salman has invited us to meet in Riyadh for talks. The key question, in my opinion, is how we can make this work.
