Chad’s tourism minister told AFP on Friday that a French traveller named Paul Ferreri was discovered dead “after a fall” after going missing in northeastern Chad while visiting a desert oasis. “Tragic accident” is how another French visitor described his demise. According to a French newspaper article, the 70-year-old man had been missing since Wednesday. He was from the city of Dijon.

The pastor went on to say, “He died after a fall,” According to Mahamat Togou Tchohimi, a local government spokesperson, the man left with a French friend “without a guide” in order to “explore the area” of Guelta de Bachikele, a Saharan oasis.
