The African Policy of US Presidential Candidates are Unclear
The 47th president of the largest military and economic force in the world will be chosen by American voters on Tuesday.
Around the world, people are paying close attention to this election. Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party and former President Donald Trump of the Republican Party are in a very close race.
Despite the fact that the outcome would affect the entire world, including Africa, neither candidate has made any explicit intentions to connect with the region.Trump’s attitude towards Africa during his first term as president varied from disdain to disregard.
Nonetheless, Trump started the Prosper Africa campaign to help American investors and the continent’s expanding middle class.
In keeping with his “America First” tenet, he is anticipated to centre his policy on national interests if reelected. Harris is reportedly no more ambitious for the region than her adversary, despite the fact that she visited three African nations in March 2023.
She is expected to carry on the Africa strategy of current President Joe Biden.Even though he still intends to travel to Angola in early December, a few weeks before his tenure ends, he has also shown little interest in the region.
