Mediators Complain that Israel is Not Interested in the Proposed Peace

The Qatari foreign minister stated Thursday that mediators Egypt and Qatar were still awaiting Israel’s reaction to a 60-day truce proposal in the Gaza Strip that Hamas has approved.

According to Arab mediators, the proposal, which was presented to Israel earlier this month by mediators from Egypt and Qatar, called for a 60-day ceasefire in return for the release of 10 hostages who are still alive and the return of the bodies of 18 hostages who have died.

It also demands the release of several Palestinian captives, the resumption of war-ending talks, and the evacuation of Israeli forces to a buffer zone along Gaza’s borders. These efforts have been met by more disregard,” stated Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the senior diplomat for Qatar.

Al Thani and Abdelatty both urged the world community to put an end to the violence and famine in Gaza and stated that they are still trying to come to an agreement on a ceasefire.

The humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave, where the majority of the more than 2 million residents have been displaced, neighborhoods are in ruins, and a famine has been declared in Gaza City, might deteriorate if Israel expands its military onslaught, aid organizations warn.
