Sudan Demands That the RSF be Designated as a Terrorist Organization at the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum
Sudan has demanded that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) be designated as a terrorist organization and held responsible for its acts against Sudanese nationals. Khartoum accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of giving the organization money and weapons.
Sudan made the plea on Saturday during the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum. At the second Ministerial Conference of the forum, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with ministers from over 50 African nations in Cairo.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, representatives from a number of African and regional organizations were also present. The Sudanese Minister of Cabinet Affairs used the occasion to urge assistance in isolating the RSF, which has been engaged in combat with the Sudanese Armed Forces for over two years.
Dr. Lamia Abdel Ghaffar told the Forum, “Sudan calls for this group (the Rapid Support Forces) to be classified as a terrorist group and held accountable for the crimes it has committed.” “And for its well-known regional sponsor, the United Arab Emirates, to be held responsible for giving it financial and military support as well as political, diplomatic, and media support, thereby becoming complicit in all the crimes against Sudanese citizens.
