Residents of Senegal have Conflicting Opinions on the Election, Despite the Government’s Declaration of Victory
With a majority of the ballots tabulated, Senegal’s leadership has proclaimed victory in the country’s early legislative elections.
Following the closing of the polls, residents had differing opinions.
The nation’s young people are particularly badly struck by unemployment and inflation; some people hope the election will bring about change.
“These elections could change a lot for me, like all other young people,” student Aita Pene stated. Everyone needs a job. We must be capable of taking care of ourselves. In order to have a happy life in Senegal, we must be able to do so without having to venture outside.
Some are less optimistic. President Diomaye Faye has been unable to implement the reforms he promised, such as combating corruption and securing a greater portion of the nation’s natural riches for the populace, because he lacks a majority in parliament. Others believe that this will remain the case.
One of them, hairstylist Ndeye Dior Gaye, stated, “We can’t build them up by talking about Dakar and Senegal.” Work is what matters. Since they have been in charge, these individuals believe they are big guys, and everyone knows what is happening. Staying in power for seven years won’t help you accomplish anything if you’ve been here for seven months and done nothing.
