Prince William visits President Cyril Ramaphosa when He is in South Africa
Following a walk with rangers and conservationists at Table Mountain National Park, Prince William paid a visit to the president of South Africa on Tuesday.
The South African presidency said in a statement that William’s visit was “another step towards the deepening of these historic ties and also indicative of the strong ties the United Kingdom, including the Royal Family, share with South Africa.
In order to attend his annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Wednesday, the Prince of Wales is travelling to South Africa for a few days.
The award, which was conceived four years ago, looks for technologies to address environmental issues, including climate change.
Each winner receives $1.3 million to support their projects.
The Alton Dala Conservation Initiative, which prevented the extinction of the Saiga Antelope, and the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance, which brings together indigenous nations to preserve forests, are this year’s finalists.
The awards ceremony is being held on the African continent for the first time. William is travelling to Africa for the first time since 2018 and is also scheduled to attend a wildlife meeting and other climate-related events.
