Tshisekedi Names two Opposition Politicians and Reorganizes the Government

In a step long anticipated by the populace after “political consultations” earlier this year, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo reorganized several members of his administration on Friday.

Notably, the head of state appointed two opposition politicians: former prime minister Adolphe Muzito was appointed vice prime minister and will also oversee the budget. Additionally, the leader of a small opposition party, Floribert Anzuluni, was appointed head of regional integration.

Aimé Boji, who went from the budget ministry to industry, and Eve Bazaiba, who went from the environment ministry to social affairs, are two more government officials who maintained their positions but moved them. Meanwhile, Judith Suminwa continues to serve as prime minister. Some commentators believe that the Congolese president may use these reforms to unite his party and create political unity behind his persona.
