Numerous Refugees Who were Kidnapped by a Criminal organisation in Libya Were Freed

In the town of Ajdabiya in the northeast, more than 100 individuals, including five women, had been taken hostage. According to the nation’s attorney general, they were tortured and trafficked in an attempt to get their relatives to foot the bill for their release.
Five alleged traffickers from Egypt, Sudan, and Libya have been taken into custody, according to officials. In an attempt to reach Europe, refugees escaping poverty and violence now use Libya as a transit country.
Traffickers now control a large number of migrants who are anxious to attempt the perilous Mediterranean passage. A three-month halt to asylum applications for migrants coming by sea from Libya was granted by the Greek parliament last week. This comes after a sharp increase in Mediterranean crossings has overrun reception centres on the island of Crete.
The United Nations and human rights organisations have strongly criticised the emergency measure. As scores of migrants abducted by a group of traffickers are released from captivity, there is relief in Libya.
