Nigeria is the First Nation in Africa to Receive Mumps Vaccinations
Nigeria is become the first nation in Africa to get access to mpox vaccinations.
The United States of America gave it 10,000 doses of vaccination.
According to reports, the five states in Nigeria—Bayelsa, Edo, Cross-River, Lagos, and Rivers—with the highest rate of mpox cases have been given priority by authorities.
Of the 36 states in Nigeria, more than ten have confirmed instances of mpox.
Tuesday, August 27, was the ceremonial signing in Abuja. It happened one week after the World Health Organization issued a global health emergency.
Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director and CEO of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, stated, “Today’s handover ceremony symbolizes more than a transfer of vaccines; it exemplifies the power of international cooperation in addressing global health challenges and local health challenges.”
“We understand that there isn’t really an abundance of this vaccination. Out of the approximately 200,000 dosages that are available worldwide, I think we are receiving 10,000.”
Nigeria has received a donation of the Jynneos (MVA) vaccine from the US government.
Vaccinating against mpox can aid in preventing infection. For those who have a high chance of developing mpox, it is advised.
