There are 14 Million Youngsters Who Require Humanitarian Aid
As the bloody conflict continues, a recent visit to Sudan by UNICEF humanitarian officials served as a reminder of the severity of the humanitarian situation there. Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban was seen touring Khartoum and other places in footage made public by UNICEF. Chaiban was observed learning at a digital center while interacting with children. As many kids constructed toys or drew, several were also observed playing in a designated area.
After long-simmering tensions between the army and its adversary, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, reached a boiling point in April 2023, Sudan entered a state of war. Humanitarian organizations claim that the violence has caused one of the biggest food and displacement crises in history. The Darfur and Kordofan regions have seen a large portion of the conflict in recent months.
Chaiban cautioned that substantial aid is needed for the situation in Sudan, particularly in el-Fasher, where fighting in the beleaguered capital of North Darfur has tripled the number of displaced persons this year alone.
