King Mohammed VI calls for Communication with Algeria on Morocco’s Throne Day

Over the past few years, the national economy has maintained a notable and consistent growth rate despite years of drought and the escalation of global problems. With industrial exports more than doubling since 2014, especially in areas connected to Morocco’s international industries, the country is likewise seeing an unparalleled industrial boom.

Then Mohammed urged neighboring Algeria to end the ongoing conflict between Rabat’s proposal for limited self-rule in the 600,000-person disputed area and Western Sahara. While Algeria backs the Polisario Front liberation movement, which seeks complete independence, Morocco asserts its territorial rights.

Morocco proposed autonomy in 2007 that would give Western Sahara some autonomy while maintaining Rabat’s authority. Since then, other countries, notably the US and the UK, have supported the concept.
