International Dignitaries Travel to Russia for the Victory Day Parade

The leaders of Venezuela, Cuba, and Mongolia landed in Moscow on Wednesday in preparation for Russia’s Victory Day festivities. On May 9, Russia celebrates Victory Day, which has grown to be the most significant secular festival in the nation.

Moscow’s attempts to showcase its authority and solidify the ties it has formed while looking for a counterbalance to the West amid the turmoil in Ukraine are highlighted with a large procession across Red Square and other celebrations.

Along with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the guest list also includes Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Some previous festivities that attracted senior Western leaders at a period of more cordial relations between Russia and the West are very different from the lineup of leaders arriving in Moscow. Denis Sassou Nguesso, president of the Republic of Congo, left, exits an aircraft as he arrives at Moscow, Russia’s Vnukovo airport on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
