In a Historic Visit to the Vatican, Ghana’s Vice President Bawumia Meets Pope Francis.

In an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties between Ghana and the Vatican City, Pope Francis and Vice-President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, met in private on Wednesday, April 24 at the Vatican.

The talks were focused on strengthening the Holy City’s already strong ties with Ghana. The historic meeting took place at Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, and it was a turning point in the two countries’ diplomatic relations.

The conversations touched on a variety of subjects, but they mostly focused on Ghana’s political and socioeconomic environment, especially looking at possible partnerships in the fields of healthcare and education. This conversation emphasized Ghana’s unwavering dedication to furthering its socio-economic growth and seeking alliances with international players to accomplish common goals.

While in Italy, Dr. Bawumia also met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. The two exchanged viewpoints on urgent global concerns, particularly the security threats facing the Gulf of Guinea and West Africa.

Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the Vatican reminded Ghana of its commitment to fostering diplomatic relations at all levels and fortifying links with the international community.
