Hamas ‘Good’ Reaction to 60-day Ceasefire Plan, but Wants Implementation Discussions

Although it stated that more discussions were required over implementation, Hamas claims to have responded “positively” to the most recent request for a 60-day truce in Gaza. Hamas stated in a statement late Friday that it is prepared to start talks right away, although it did not specify what needs to be negotiated.
It was unclear from Hamas’ statement if the group had agreed to the 60-day truce that US President Donald Trump had proposed. The conflict is almost 21 months old, and Hamas has been demanding assurances that the original truce will result in its complete termination.
The ceasefire could begin as early as next week, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media. However, negotiations are required to decide how much aid would be permitted to enter Gaza during the truce and how many Palestinian prisoners would be released in exchange for each Israeli hostage that is freed.
Negotiations for a lasting ceasefire and the release of all captives in exchange for the complete departure of Israeli forces may start as soon as the ceasefire is established. The official said that talks on a lasting ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages will begin on the first day of the truce.
