The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Demands Global Pressure to Stop The Slaughter” in Sudan
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament on Tuesday that he raised the “ongoing and utterly horrifying situation in Sudan” during the G20 summit held in South Africa over the weekend.
Starmer said he was working with international partners to “break restrictions on humanitarian aid and demand accountability” for the worsening violence in the conflict-hit country. He urged “global pressure to stop the slaughter” and called for a “sustained” ceasefire that would pave the way for a transition to civilian rule.
As the official penholder for Sudan within the United Nations Security Council, the United Kingdom faces mounting pressure to help end the bloodshed. The British government has also come under scrutiny following claims that UK-made military equipment may have been used by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to The Guardian, the UN Security Council received evidence in June 2024 and March 2025 suggesting that the United Arab Emirates supplied the RSF with British-made items. Despite these reports, the newspaper said the UK government continued to authorize similar military exports to the UAE.
