Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga passes away in India

Raila Odinga, the former prime minister of Kenya, died of heart arrest on Wednesday while receiving treatment in Kochi. Odinga was taken to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was declared dead at approximately 9:52 am Indian time, after collapsing on a morning stroll on the grounds of the Ayurvedic resort.
Odinga, an 80-year-old well-known politician from Kenya, was prime minister of his nation from 2008 until 2013. A Luo tribal member, he joined parliament in 1992 and made unsuccessful presidential runs in 1997, 2007, 2013, 2017, and 2022, alleging that he was denied the opportunity to win in the previous four elections.
Particularly, the 2007 elections had a lasting impact on Kenyan politics, igniting a wave of ethnic violence that killed over 1,100 people and divided tribal groupings against one another. Therefore, few anticipated that Ruto in 2023 and Odinga and Kenyatta in 2018 would shake hands and end decades of animosity and instability in the East African country. Odinga was regarded as Kenya’s longest-serving opposition leader and the son of the country’s first vice president.
