Fears of Starvation in Gaza Spark Oro-Palestine Demonstrations in Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa.

As the humanitarian toll in the enclave continues to rise, thousands of protesters in Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa came together over the weekend to condemn Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza.

With the slogans “No to genocide” and “Boycott Israel,” politicians, civil society organizations, and rights activists marched peacefully through the capital of Dakar, Senegal. While some asked world leaders to advocate for fresh talks toward a two-state solution, others urged their country to cut diplomatic ties with Israel.

Hundreds of people participated in a solidarity protest in Nairobi, Kenya, as drivers and bikers waved Palestinian flags and shouted, “Free, free Palestine.” Protesters warned that the war amounted to genocide and denounced the targeting of hospitals and civilians.

Demonstrators also came to the streets of South Africa, whose government has been one of the most outspoken in its criticism of Israel. This strengthened Pretoria’s stance in the International Court of Justice, where it accused Israel of genocide.

The demonstrations come after the UN said that over 500,000 people, primarily children, are suffering from starvation in Gaza, a situation made worse by Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid.
