Dancehall Icon Shatta Wale Exhorts Youth to Support President Mahama

Ghanaian dancehall icon Shatta Wale has urged his followers to support President John Mahama, claiming that his administration will assist them improve their financial situation. At the 2025 President’s Cup in Accra, Wale performed in front of a crowded stadium and urged supporters to “support this government from now until the next election.” Support this administration if you’re a young person who wants to see money in your pocket.

Although there has been some pushback from political experts, fans cheered the statements. Wale is accused by some of being opportunistic and trying to win over Mahama. Some argue that supporters should base their political choices on programs rather than individuals.

Following the performance, Wale thanked the president for his dedication to inspiring young people in a memorial post. January marked the start of Mahama’s four-year tenure. This is his second term as president; he was elected to a full term in 2012 after taking office after John Atta Mills’ death.
