Cyclone Gamane Strikes Madagascar, Displacing Thousands of People and Killing at Least Eleven.

It was anticipated that the storm would pass over the island in the Indian Cyclone Ocean, but it turned around and destroyed hundreds of dwellings.

While people attempted to rescue residents from their damaged homes, aerial footage revealed towns that were submerged in water. In two days, the catastrophic cyclone swept across northeastern Madagascar, forcing over 18,000 people to flee and leaving three more unaccounted for, according to a report released late on Thursday by the National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC).

The organization added that the cyclone was traveling at 150 km/h on average and 210 km/h in gusts.

Officials said that after Cyclone Gamane made landfall in northern Madagascar, at least 11 people had died.

The storm was anticipated to pass over the island in the Indian Ocean, but it turned around and destroyed hundreds of dwellings.

Cyclone Freddy devastated the island nation last month, killing four people in the process and left tremendous damage in her wake. Over 16,600 Malagasy people were impacted, with over 4,500 of those homes being destroyed or flooded. The Cyclone also swept up a few houses.
