China Reaches a “Strategic Level” in its Relations With Africa

Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled an action plan for Beijing’s relations with Africa over the next three years during his speech at the opening of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation on Thursday.

It covers a wide range of modernization-related topics, including connectivity, healthcare, rural revitalisation, common security, trade prosperity, and industrial chain cooperation. Beijing stated that throughout the partnership, it would give Africa $50.7 billion to carry out the ten initiatives.

China declared that its ties with African nations were reaching a “strategic level” and claimed that they were at their “best in history”.

“I suggest that bilateral relations between China and all African nations that have diplomatic ties with China be raised to the level of strategic relations, keeping in mind its future growth,” he declared.

Xi emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to advance fair, transparent, and just modernisation so that everyone benefits. Approximately one-third of the global population resides in China and Africa. Global modernisation cannot exist without our modernisation,” Xi stated. Amidst tensions with the United States and other Western nations, China is seeking to expand further its influence in Africa, which is why the summit took place.
