Chad’s Opposition Leader and Former Prime Minister were Detained for Inciting Hate’

Succès Masra, the opposition leader and former prime minister of Chad, was taken into custody early Friday morning at his residence in Gassi, a neighbourhood of N’Djamena.

A group of armed men may be seen removing the leader of the Transformers political party via surveillance footage. About fatal conflicts in the southwest of the country, he has been charged with inciting hatred.

His party claimed he had been abducted and called for his unconditional release during a news conference. Dr. Tog-Yeum Nagorngar, the secretary general of the Transformers, said, “The Transformers, a party that has always promoted nonviolent civic engagement, wishes to express its deep concern over this brutal action.

It was conducted in flagrant violation of the civil and political rights guaranteed by the constitution and outside of any known legal procedure. Masra was later apprehended in relation to a confrontation that took place on Wednesday in the south-western area of Logone-Occidental, according to prosecutor Oumar Mahamat Kedelaye.

He said that the judicial police’s investigations had shown Masra’s apparent involvement in the event. He added that there were messages urging individuals to arm themselves against their fellow residents, especially on social media.
