Atiku Abubakar, the Opposition Leader in Nigeria, Leaves the PDP, the Country’s Previous Ruling Party

Atiku voiced his worries about the party’s departure from its core values in a sincere letter to the party’s leadership. With a heavy heart, I quit, realizing the insurmountable disparities that have arisen,” he said.

In addition to becoming the party’s presidential candidate in 2019 and 2023, Atiku expressed his appreciation for the crucial knowledge he gained while serving as vice president of Nigeria for two consecutive years, from 1999 to 2007.

The PDP has governed Nigeria for 16 years. A new political alliance, the Africa Democratic Congress, has been formed by Atiku and other opposition leaders in recognition of the pressing need for change. This group is prepared to take on President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Together with the tough former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, this dynamic combination brings together Atiku and Peter Obi, both of whom finished second in the most recent presidential elections.

This coalition represents a turning point in Nigerian politics and also includes notable former parliamentarians and governors from the ruling party. It brings back memories of the strong coalition that ended the PDP’s 16-year hegemony in 2015. This new coalition seeks to instill optimism and effect revolutionary change for the Nigerian people as the political landscape changes.
