African Union Talks About Integration Concerns During A Convention In Ghana
Prior to meeting with the G20 and UN, the African Union called a conference in Ghana on Sunday to discuss matters pertaining to African integration and to forge a common position.
African integration should go more quickly, according to Mohamed Cheikh Ghazouani, the president of Mauritania and the current chair of the African Union.
In order to sustain the continent and realize the ambitions of its people, he emphasized the significance of accelerating economic union.
The meeting’s main topics of discussion were funding sources for African Union initiatives, especially the organization’s own budget, which is mostly dependent on contributions from non-African partners.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, emphasized that member nations must exhibit unity in their forthcoming interactions with foreign partners.
He underlined the need of having a unified voice in significant international fora, such as the G20, which the African Union is currently a member of.
Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, three ECOWAS members, run the risk of losing their membership owing to military coups that have overthrown their democratically elected governments amid the continued instability in the West African area.
For years, terrorist groups with ties to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda have threatened these countries.
