BRICS Leaders Express Concern Over the Middle East War and Ask for Calm

The BRICS group of emerging economies expressed alarm on Saturday about escalating tensions in the Middle East and opposed the use of sanctions not allowed by the United Nations, as the leaders met in New Delhi to improve their position in global affairs, which are perceived as controlled by the West. Leaders from India, Russia, China, and other BRICS countries displayed commemorative postal stamps honouring the group’s twentieth anniversary.

India will host this year’s summit with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”Our meeting today was quite productive and creative. Aside from the diversity of our perspectives, our united commitment to BRICS cooperation was abundantly evident,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated at the meeting. “It is clear from the discussion today that changing the world cannot be run with old institutions.”

BRICS was established as a platform for emerging economies seeking more influence in institutions dominated by Western nations. In a joint statement, leaders voiced concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East and urged calm and maximum moderation.

When the bloc’s foreign ministers convened in New Delhi in May, they were unable to reach an agreement on a unified statement, with members Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates divided over the war, which began with US-Israeli bombings on Iran in late February.
