Emirati Official Admits Mistakes in Sudan Response to the Crisis
Anwar Gargash, the presidential diplomatic adviser of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), acknowledged mistakes made by the international community, including the UAE, in the way the ongoing conflict in Sudan has been handled. Speaking at the Manama Dialogue, an annual security summit held in Bahrain, Gargash reflected on the events that led up to the civil war, stating.
We all made the mistake when the two generals who are fighting the civil war today overthrew the civilian government.” He explained that while the international response did not label the event as a coup, it came close We said it’s a C O but did not put the U and P at the end of it.
The latest violence erupted as paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) swept through el-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. Fighters stormed the city by vehicle, camel, and on foot, targeting the Sudanese military’s last strongholds and reportedly killing and detaining hundreds of people. The United Nations described the incident as a terrible escalation, raising concerns that Sudan already wracked by more than 31 months of war—could face a further split, similar to the division that led to the independence of South Sudan nearly 15 years ago.
