Kenyan President Ruto Tells The UN General Assembly That the Haitian Crisis “Can and Must be Solved.
Despite problems with logistics and resources related to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti, Kenya’s president stated on Monday that the crisis in Haiti “can and must be solved. At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, William Ruto gave a speech at the High-Level discussion on Haiti.
According to him, logistics, transportation, and support present the MSS with its greatest challenge. “If that remains unpredictable, I’m afraid next mission may suffer the same as MSS,” he stated. Less than 1,000 troops, primarily from Kenya, had been deployed to Haiti as of June 2025, far less than the 2,500 troops who were initially scheduled for the UN-sponsored deployment.
In his remarks, Ruto expressed gratitude to the US for its transportation efforts but lamented the occasionally subpar US equipment. Because the majority of the cars were used, they broke down frequently, putting our employees in grave danger when they did so in hazardous locations. However, Ruto stated, at least [the US] stepped up. On Monday, the United States reiterated its demand for a larger, more comprehensive Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in order to restore security in Haiti.
