Palestine Requests Entry Into The Highest Un Court’s Genocide Lawsuit Against Israel On Behalf Of South Africa

Application for authorization to join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel for alleged genocide in Gaza has been made by Palestinian officials to the highest U.N. court.

According to the request, which was made public on Monday, Israel is “part of a systematic effort to wipe Palestinian society and its culture and social institutions from the map” by means of its current military campaign. On behalf of the “State of Palestine,” Ammar Hijazi, an official in the Palestinian Authority’s foreign ministry, signed the plea to the International Court of Justice.

Late last year, South Africa filed a lawsuit with the world court, accusing Israel of violating the genocide treaty through its military assault that destroyed vast areas of Gaza. Israel disputes claims that the military campaign it launched to destroy Hamas in response to the horrific murders on October 7th is genocide.

Israel is stepping up its onslaught in Rafah, in the south, which used to be the center of humanitarian relief efforts. For the Palestinians who are suffering from widespread hunger, the Israeli incursion has essentially stopped the supply of food, medicine, and other supplies.

Over 36,000 Palestinians have died as a result of Israeli ground operations and shelling in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry of Gaza, which does not differentiate between militants and civilians.
