Fm Lavrov Of Russia Begins His Visit Of Africa In Congo
On his most recent trip to West Africa, where coups and growing dissatisfaction with longtime allies like France and the United States have led to certain countries’ tilt toward Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived late on Monday in Congo.
Lavrov has made multiple trips to Africa in the last few years as Russia looks to many of its 54 member states for assistance, or at the very least, neutrality, in the wake of Ukraine.
According to Russia’s foreign ministry, Lavrov met with Morissanda Kouyaté, the foreign minister of Guinea, on Monday.
The meeting’s purpose, according to a statement from Guinea’s administration, was to explore areas of mutual cooperation.
Lavrov expressed his desire to talk about reciprocity and collaboration in international fora, such as the UN.
According to a Brazzaville government communiqué, Lavrov was scheduled to meet with Congolese President Denis Sassou N’Guesso in the city of Oyo on Tuesday.
Which additional nations were on his schedule for later this week was unclear.
