Zambia: Politician Arrested for Allegedly Fabricating a Picture of The President

On Tuesday, Mambwe Zimba, the Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zambia, was detained. He is said to have uploaded a bogus picture on Facebook that showed the country’s president lying in a casket.

Vice President Mutale Nalumango pays his respects to Zambia’s dead leader, President Hakainde Hichilema, who is resting in a casket. This is what a digitally changed picture that was posted on Facebook from Lusaka said. It led to the arrest of Mambwe Zimba, Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a political party, on Tuesday.

The press and the administration have not said anything that would suggest that President Hichilema may have died or that his health may have gotten worse. The Lusaka Times, a local news outlet, said that early reports showed that Zimba was one of the people in charge of the Facebook group “Zambia for all 2026.” The 44-year-old politician is said to still be in police custody in Lusaka. It seems that an investigation has been going on since Sunday, when the police first heard about the changed picture.
