Workers At A Goma Clinic Tend To Mpox Patients As The Illness Spreads In The Eastern Democratic Republic Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s horrific conflict has engulfed Goma for many years.
The city in the east of the country in Africa is currently the epicenter of the most recent mpox outbreak, also known as monkeypox.
Workers at the Goma suburb’s Nyiragongo General Hospital have seen a rise in the illness’s patient load.
Concerning traits and an apparent higher death rate than previous iterations characterize the current version that is circulating around the nation.
Nyota Mukobelwa, the patient, stated that she was driven to a hospital in a Doctors Without Borders jeep following the onset of her illness.
She talked about how she felt after getting mpox while seated on a bed in a treatment area made of tents that is separate from the rest of the hospital.
“At first, I experienced a fever, headache, groin pain, and muscle aches. I assumed it had to be an illness when spots started to appear on me,” the woman remarked.
The majority of patients presenting are children, according to doctors and nurses.
