Two Soldiers Are Tried By The Nigerian Army For A Fatal Drone Strike Incident

The Nigerian army has held those responsible for the deaths of 85 civilians in an airstrike accountable, five months after they were first acknowledged.

On Thursday, May 2, the Director of Defence Media Operations declared that two military personnel would be facing a court martial. On December 3rd of last year, an army drone strike unintentionally struck Tudun Biri village in northwest Nigeria. At the time, a Muslim festival was observed by civilians.

Reporters in Abuja were informed by Major General Edward Buba that the victims were misidentified as terrorists.

He further stated that, after what he described as a thorough investigation, the army started taking disciplinary action against those responsible. A court-martial will be held to try the accused for their commission or omission of crimes. Major General Buba did not offer any other details.

In the northwest and northeast of the nation, where jihadists have been fighting for the past 14 years, Nigeria’s armed forces frequently use airstrikes to combat so-called bandit militias.The victims were misidentified as terrorists, Major General Edward Buba informed reporters in Abuja.
After what he described as a thorough investigation, he continued, the army began taking disciplinary action against those found to be at fault. The accused will stand trial in a court martial for their acts of commission or omission.
