Two of Trump’s Peace Agreements Are in Threat as the Conflict Continues

President Donald Trump has praised a number of agreements to settle international conflicts as proof of his ability to negotiate, but at least two of them are in jeopardy and could fall apart. Fighting has increased in both countries less than two months after Trump saw Cambodia and Thailand sign a ceasefire agreement in Malaysia to end their border dispute, and less than a week after Congo and Rwanda signed a deal in his presence in Washington that was intended to stop fighting in eastern Congo.

International concern over the developments led to urgent appeals on Tuesday from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and nations involved in the African Great Lakes area to put an end to the escalating bloodshed.

In each instance, the declarations called on the fighters to fulfill their obligations under the agreements that Trump has partially cited as justification for positioning himself as the “president of peace. Late on Tuesday, Trump said he was certain he could put an end to the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia once more.
