Trump Will Travel to China to Have Crucial Discussions With Xi Jinping

Trade, Iran, and regional security are anticipated to be at the top of President Donald Trump’s agenda during his high-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing from May 13 to May 15.

China’s foreign ministry acknowledged the travel, which is the first time a US president has visited China since 2017. As China continues to be a significant purchaser of Iranian oil, Trump is anticipated to put pressure on Xi on Iran while simultaneously attempting to resolve trade tensions between the two biggest economies in the world. Trump’s attention on the Iranian dispute caused the trip, which was originally scheduled for earlier this year, to be postponed.

The White House claims the visit would blend diplomacy with symbolism, including a state banquet and a trip of Beijing’s Temple of Heaven, despite persistent disputes over Taiwan, tariffs, and the Middle East.

According to US officials, Trump wants to reopen direct communication with one of Washington’s main international rivals while securing what they refer to as “good deals” for the American people.
