The First Shipment of Mpox Vaccines from the DRC is Expected on Thursday
As the Mpox outbreak spreads further into the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, patients at a Kamituga clinic are waiting impatiently for vaccinations.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is scheduled to receive its first supply of Mpox vaccine doses on Thursday, followed by a second shipment on Saturday, according to a statement made on Wednesday by the man in charge of the country’s response to the outbreak.
Richard Songa is one of the unsettling people depicted in these photographs, along with other people who are covered in sores and languishing in agony.
“My situation was quite serious when I came here. I didn’t know whether I would live, so I had already given up hope, but now I can see a difference and I’m beginning to recover. He remarked, “I was not eating, and I had the Mpox all over my body.”
Richard looks at a photo of his condition taken before visiting the clinic on his phone as he starts to recover.
He says, “This disease is incredibly serious and has the potential to kill individuals, so if a vaccine is available, it is crucial to have it. Personally, I would have passed away if I had not come to Alima Hospital. It is crucial to have the vaccine if one exists that can stop this illness.
