Four Senior RSF Commanders are Sanctioned by The UK for Atrocities in Sudan
Four leaders of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who are suspected of committing atrocities in the city of El Fasher have been sanctioned by the UK, the government announced on Friday.
Among those targeted is Abdul Rahim Hamdan Dagalo, the RSF’s deputy leader and the brother of General Hemedti, the group’s top commander. The European Union previously sanctioned him in November.
The UK has also sanctioned three additional senior commanders: Field Commander Tijani Ibrahim Moussa Mohamed, Brigadier-General Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris, and RSF commander for North Darfur Gedo Hamdan Ahmed. They are all subject to travel restrictions and asset freezes.
The commanders are charged with intentional attacks on residents in El Fasher, mass murders, and sexual assault. Before the RSF took control of it in October following an 18-month siege, the city served as the Sudanese army’s final stronghold in Darfur.
Survivors, NGOs, and medical professionals promptly reported the paramilitary group’s massacres and other crimes. According to the UK, the RSF’s acts “are part of a deliberate strategy to terrorize populations and seize control through fear and violence.
