Russian Fm In Congo: Key Priorities Are Collaboration, The Fight In Ukraine, And Libya

During his second stop in Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with President Denis Sassou-Nguesso of the Congo.

The Libyan political situation was high on the agenda. As the chair of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, Sassou-Nguesso is working to set up a summit between the various Libyan factions.

Top Congolese diplomat Jean-Claude Gakosso and his Russian counterpart spoke during a press conference in Oyo on Tuesday, June 4.

Brazaville has demanded that the war in Ukraine be ended through negotiations.

“In our eyes, those who urge to send troops on the ground do not help the peace process, but on the contrary, they put all humanity at risk of fatal and definitive confrontation,” said Gakosso the Foreign.

“This is not a very responsible position.”

When Russia dispatched troops into neighboring Ukraine two years ago, the bloody conflict in that country intensified.

On June 15 and 16, Switzerland will play host to a symposium centered around peace. Russia was not invited, though.

Lavrov has taken aim at the next meeting.

“The conference in Switzerland, of course, we have said more than once, and all objective politicians understand that it has no other meaning but to try to preserve the collapsing anti-Russian bloc.”

In 2022, discussions with Vladimir Poutine were prohibited in Ukraine.

Following Lavrov’s working visit, Brazzaville and Moscow reiterated their intention to strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership.
