President of Egypt in Turkey as Ties Between the Two Nations Improve

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, arrived in Turkey on Wednesday for formal talks with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey.

It coincides with a strengthening of ties between the two regional powers and marks the first official visit to Turkey by an Egyptian president in twelve years.

Erdogan visited Egypt for the first time in almost ten years in February, following the two nations’ decision to restore diplomatic relations and install new ambassadors.

After democratically elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by then-army chief El-Sisi amid widespread demonstrations against his divisive first year in office, Cairo and Ankara’s relations fell apart in 2013.

Leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that Turkey has traditionally supported, was Morsi.

It is reported that el-Sisi and Erdogan will sign about 20 agreements on this second summit since they started patching things up.

Enhancing cooperation in energy, defense, tourism, health, culture, and education are anticipated to be the main goals of these.

In addition, they will talk about regional and international concerns, especially Israel’s assaults on Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Turkey has commended Cairo’s humanitarian efforts and its role as a mediator in the Gaza truce negotiations, and it has delivered hundreds of tons of aid to Egypt for Palestinians.
